There’s still time to get on board for Stoptober

If you want to give up smoking there is a wealth of support you can access to help you on your journey to becoming smoke free.

The CCG is backing the vital NHS scheme which runs throughout October.

Support includes setting up an individual plan to tackle the challenge, which you can find on the NHS website.

There are many health benefits to giving up smoking, including improving lung capacity and helping easier breathing.

Did you know…

  • After 20 minutes of quitting your pulse rate will start returning to normal
  • After 48 hours all carbon monoxide is flushed out, your taste and smell will start improving and your lungs will begin to clear out mucus
  • Between two and 12 weeks the blood will be pumping much better to your heart and muscles
  • After one year your risk of heart attack will have halved
  • After 10 years of quitting smoking your risk of death from lung cancer will have halved compared to a smoker’s.

Download the free NHS Stoptober app, which allows you to follow a 28 day programme to giving up for good and allows you to:

  • track your progress
  • see how much money you’re saving
  • get daily support.

Reaching the magic 28 day goal leaves you five times more likely to keep going.
