Registered charity Sudden is now providing NHS bereavement service

As the NHS returns to new ways of working, our colleagues responsible for the NHS bereavement support service are needed to return to their normal roles. We know this support has been crucial during these challenging times, so it’s vital the helpline remains open. Therefore, Sudden will now take over this service.

Sudden is a not-for-profit service hosted by the support charity, Brake, who help people who are suddenly bereaved, and also help the people who care for them.

They are here for people who may have been bereaved by:

  • COVID-19, or any other medical reason that happened suddenly or ended a life too soon;
  • an event / incident of any kind that caused fatal injury
  • suicide

The helpline number will remain the same (0800 2600 400).Sudden offer up to ten weeks of phone-based emotional support from day one.

If you would like to refer someone into the Sudden service you can by following the instructions on the Sudden service referral information sheet.
