Saying a BIG festive thank you

Spreading some yuletide cheer…

It might have been a challenging year – but we have still found much to be grateful for.

Not least, our key workers and community spirit which has seen the country navigate the unforeseen and life-changing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rainbows in windows, weekly rounds of applause on the doorstep and a host of kindness have already found a way to pay tribute to those going the extra mile.

And next week sees the launch of a campaign designed to recognise those who have come together to fight coronavirus.

We are getting on board with the Big Festive Thank You, launched by the Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership, starting Monday and running until Christmas Eve.

The campaign centres around five ways to wellbeing with activities attached to them.

  • Give
  • Learn
  • Connect
  • Being physically active
  • Being in the moment

A series of e-cards, which you can use and send to colleagues and friends, will be available on AskHUE early next week. You could also make a donation to a charity, such as a local food bank.

Learning could be trying a new craft while staying active might be taking part in a charity fun run.

Fun runs are taking place for Farleigh Hospice, Havens Hospices and St Luke’s Hospice. Find out about more activities you can get involved in on the Active Essex website.

Connecting with others will culminate in as many people as possible heading to their doorsteps at 6pm on Thursday 24 December to ring a bell or light a candle in honour of all key workers.

Finally, being in the moment encourages everyone to take some time for themselves – go for a walk, meditate using the Headspace or Calm app or simply get lost in a good book.
