Mid-week mindfulness session a success

The first ever mid-week mindfulness session proved a valuable opportunity for de-cluttering minds.

With work, life and everything else often over-crowding our thoughts, practicing mindfulness can help when you fear being overwhelmed by it all.

This first guided session, which involved a 12 minute exercise followed by time for reflection and feedback, was attended by 18 staff members.

Some had been successfully using the methods and spoke of how valuable it had been over the past year, while several others were first-timers.

The positive feedback focused on the “relaxing” benefits of the session, which helps re-focus your mind into the moment, on breathing and the immediate sounds around us to avoid all those other things rushing in.

The short, very relaxed, session took place in the Staff Room area of Teams and will resume in January and then on a fortnightly basis.

The benefits of mindfulness can include:

  • improved sleep
  • increased happiness and optimism
  • reduced stress and anxiety.

Many who attended this first session felt holding it on a Wednesday was a clever way of de-compressing halfway through the working week.

Watch this space for details – it would be great to see even more of you attend future sessions.
