Marking National Breastfeeding Celebration Week

This week (1- 7 June) marks National Breastfeeding Celebration Week.

This year’s theme is supporting breastfeeding during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Our colleague Scarlett, an infant feeding midwife at PAH, shares information on how women can reach their breastfeeding goals, however they choose to feed their baby.

Facts about breastfeeding… did you know:

  • Breastfeeding reduces the risk of:
    • breast cancer
    • ovarian cancer
    • type 2 diabetes
    • postpartum depression.
  • It helps to protect babies from potential illnesses
  • Babies are less likely to develop obesity, asthma or diabetes
  • More than 81% of women in the UK start breastfeeding
