It’s national Stress Awareness Month

As you may have read, Active April is the theme for this month’s 12 months of healthiness campaign.

April is also national Stress Awareness Month aimed at informing people about:

  • the causes and symptoms of stress
  • the dangers of stress
  • successful coping mechanisms
  • how to look after themselves
  • where to get help and support.

Did you know doing any form of exercise is a great way to relieve stress?

A little regular activity can make a huge difference in helping you to manage your stress levels. Getting active not only improves your physical health and fitness but also your mental wellbeing.

Here are 4 stress-busting exercises, and their specific benefits, you could try:

1. Yoga

Yoga improves your health, wellbeing and flexibility. It will also help you get into a relaxed, meditative state of mind

2. Swimming

Swimming is a great way to get in shape. The water is calming and relaxing, so can help you unwind while getting some exercise at the same time

3. Martial arts

Martial arts is an effective way to develop self-discipline, become part of a group and release any pent-up tension and frustration

4. Walking

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier. It can be a social activity with others or time for you to walk alone and think
