Infection Prevention and Control team in West Essex CCG

As of 1 October 2019, there is now an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team. The team will work closely with partners, providers and stakeholders. They will also maintain high standards of IPC within the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) across Hertfordshire and west Essex.

The IPC team consists of:

• Lynn Stewart – Head of IPC
• Sarah Mantle – Senior IPC Nurse
• Alex Simmons – IPC Administrator and HCAI Surveillance Lead
• Karen Jenkins – IPC Administrator

The team will be developing the following to promote improvements in IPC standards, Care Quality Commission (CQC) compliance and implementation of best practice:

• An IPC intranet page (accessible via AskHUE). It will contain key documents including:
  • audit tools
  • updates on national priorities, such as reducing healthcare associated infections
  • antibiotic resistance
• Surveillance of healthcare associated infections such as C diff and E coli or MRSA blood stream infection etc.
• Development of a network of IPC champions with six- monthly educational events
