Eat more veg this June!
Discover ways to include an extra portion of fruit and veg into your diet…
As Junk Food June continues, this week we thought we’d focus on how to get your 5 A Day.
We’re all encouraged to eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day and it’s easier than you think!
Did you know fruit and veg don’t have to be fresh to count as a portion? Nor do they have to be eaten on their own. They also count if they’re part of a meal.
These all count towards your 5 A Day:
- Frozen fruit and veg
- Tinned or canned fruit and veg. Buy ones in natural juice or water, with no added sugar or salt
- Fruit and veg cooked in dishes such as soups, stew or pasta
- Fruit and veg in convenience foods, such as ready meals, soups and puddings.
Check out the veggie wheel below, courtesy of Tesco, for more inspiration on how to get more veggies into some of the nation’s favourite meals.
All you need to do is…
Step 1: Pick a dish
Find your favourite family meal on the outside of the wheel
Step 2: Add in
Try adding something easy, different and delicious into the mix
Step 3: Supercharge
Up the veg goodness by serving your dish with a tasty side
Step 4: Swap
Ramp it up – replace a non-veg ingredient for a veggie one
