Celebrating Black History Month
This month marks Black History Month in the UK! It’s been celebrated nationwide every year for nearly 40 years. This month was originally founded to recognise the contributions that people of African and Caribbean backgrounds have made to this country over many generations. Now, Black History Month has expanded to include the history of not just Afro-Caribbean black people but all black people in our communities.
We encourage colleagues from all backgrounds to come together during the month to celebrate the role black people have had in shaping our communities. We want you to share your stories of what this occasion means to you! We are also looking for some traditional recipes that everyone can have a go at. We are interested in whatever you would like to share whether it’s some really good books, podcasts or TED talks, we want to hear from you!
We hope that through a series of stories from you and activities we can raise awareness of the enormous contribution black communities have made to our vibrant and diverse society.
If you are interested in sharing, please contact the Comms team.
