Be-cores you’re worth it!

Yesterday (28 August) lunchtime, staff took part in a 45-minute core fitness class for Active August.

The session, run by Elle Linton a This Girl Can Essex ambassador, focussed on a series of exercises which help to strengthen your core muscles. Having a strong core can improve your balance, stability and also your posture.

If your core is weak, you’re more likely to slouch, since it’s harder to keep yourself upright. Good posture is better for your spine, prevents and alleviates lower back pain, and allows you to breathe easier.

Naomi Money, Medicines team administrator, commented: “It felt good to work out, and at the same time not take yourself too seriously and have a laugh about it. It was fun!”

Why not try searching for ‘core fitness exercises’ on YouTube for a free fitness routine you can try at home?

And the winner is…

Congratulations go to Del Ford, Population Health Management, who won a rather fetching water bottle in last week’s health and wellbeing wordsearch competition. Great for keeping hydrated in the warm weather.

In the words of Bruce Forsyth… ‘What’s on the board Miss Ford?”, Del said: “I’m pleased I entered. My bottle is already taking pride of place on my desk. Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it!”

Look out for details next week on what’s coming up during ‘Social September’, our 12 months of healthiness theme for next month.

In the meantime, send us your suggestions for any events or activities staff could get involved with or take part in for Social September.
