Are you an unpaid carer?

Discover what support is available if you’re juggling work with caring responsibilities…

Did you know 1 in 5 of the NHS workforce is an unpaid carer?

You might be reading this thinking ‘yes, that’s me’ or know a colleague who cares for somebody else.

We know it can be a real struggle for those of you who are combining work with caring for a loved one who is older, disabled or seriously ill. We appreciate this may be even more of a challenge during the pandemic.

If you are an unpaid carer, remember to let us know by recording it on ESR. That way you can access up to five days’ carers leave per year.

You can do this by following the step-by-step instructions in the ESR identifying working carers’ guidance.

More support is also available. The CCG is covered by the Herts and west Essex Integrated Care System’s ‘Employers for Carers’ membership. Our membership includes access to an online platform made for carers by carers. It offers a range of resources that can help support you juggle work and your caring responsibilities, such as:

  • e-learning modules
  • fact sheets
  • interactive guides
  • personalised support
  • information on: health and wellbeing; technology and caring; and financial planning.

To access the online carers’ platform:
